LINFA

for De Castelli

Linfa is part of the new research "Ornamentum, Artistic Perspectives on Metal Erosion" by De Castelli. The works draws inspiration from the movement of vital fluids within organic tissues. Sap flows from the leaves to the rest of the plant, carrying the organic substances synthesized during photosynthesis. When observed under a microscope, the image resembles the organic structure of a plant. Through the etching process, the surface of one- millimeter-thick brass and copper is eroded, generating fluid movements and tactile and perceptual experiences. The artwork has been exhibited during the Milano Design Week 2024.

With Ornamentum, De Castelli returns to the essence of decoration, emphasizing the deliberate slowness of manual gesture: aligning notions of chemistry, mechanics and art history to restore the authors hand to the engraving technique.

Bringing industrial process and high craftsmanship together, De Castelli once again blends strategic vision and creativity: the result is a collection of copper and brass artworks that come to life through the strength of the project and demonstrate the versatility of this technique.
